WILDLIFE
AMBASSADORS
Download our
Education Program Brochure!
Apart from Onyx, our domestic rabbit (who was a rescue from the
humane society), all of the wild educational ambassadors originally came to
PWRC to be rehabilitated, but were unable to be successfully returned to the
wild. Not only do we get the opportunity to provide these special animals with
a life they would not otherwise have a chance to live, but they also do PWRC a
huge service. They help people to develop an appreciation for the need to
protect our environment.

Perry Meet "Perry", the Peregrine Falcon! Perry was a first year male when he was found in South-western Manitoba under a hydro line by Manitoba Conservation. Upon examination the falcon was found to have a fractured wing and was sent to a vet clinic for surgery. Unfortunately the injury did not heal and he was unable to fly. He was transferred to the PWRC to be part of our education program. His life now has new meaning as he teaches Manitobans about important wildlife issues as an Ambassador for all wildlife.

Tao Meet "Tao", the Great Horned Owl. Tao came to PWRC as a chick that had fallen from the nest in the spring of 2008. His rescuers were concerned members of the public who believed he was orphaned. They kept him for a week or so before he was transported to the PWRC. Each year many young wildlife are mistakenly taken from their parents by people who believe they are orphaned. If handled and exposed too much to humans when young, wildlife can habituate to people and become dangerous problem wildlife and/or lack the appropriate species behaviours required to survive once released back into nature. This is why education of the public about juvenile wildlife is so important. Now Tao has become part of the PWRC's education program and quickly became a favorite of the dedicated education volunteers that spent hours upon hours training and preparing him for his new life ahead. His story will be shared with others to help prevent unnecessary orphans in the future. The PWRC is very happy to have Tao as the latest edition to the education team! |

Onyx Meet 'Onyx', the lop-earred rabbit! Onyx was awaiting a new home at the Humane Society when one of our volunteers spotted him. She knew that with his friendly and charming personality that he would be perfect for our education program. Onyx is part of the 'Babies, Bunnies, and Beaks' presentation, which is geared towards younger children. He will help teach the difference between our pets at home and the animals found in the wild. |
